Astragalus is the most diverse genus within flowering plants with almost 2500 species, it widely distributed around world, very abundant in temperate regions of Northern Hemisphere, central and western Asia, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Europe, Mongolia, Siberia, northeastern China, Japan. In American continent especially Canada, United States, Mexico, South America. Given diversity species present recent description at least 15 new for this country, absence a study that encompasses all findings last general Mexico dates back 60 years, we consider necessary taxonomic synopsis information, which presented here. (Female gametophyte development in Adesmia latifolia (Spreng.) Vog. (Leguminosae – Papilionoideae)). The female gametophyte has a monosporic origin and a Polygonum type development. The female gametophyte growth consumes a large part of the neighboring nucellar cells and, in the micropylar region, part of the nucellar epidermis and internal integument. The mature gametophyte is composed of only...

Morphological and micromorphological characteristics of Desmodium fruits (Leguminosae: Papilionoideae).

The genus Desmodium is represented in Santa Catarina State, Brazil, by 13 species, all with lomen- taceous fruits. Shape, size and isthmus margin of loments vary, while the surface is glabrous, or covered by trichomes of different types. Morphological diversity of trichomes becomes particularly relevant to taxonomic description. The trichome types present on the surface of Desmodium fruits prov...

Specificity in Legume-Rhizobia Symbioses

Most species in the Leguminosae (legume family) can fix atmospheric nitrogen (N₂) via symbiotic bacteria (rhizobia) in root nodules. Here, the literature on legume-rhizobia symbioses in field soils was reviewed and genotypically characterised rhizobia related to the taxonomy of the legumes from which they were isolated. The Leguminosae was divided into three sub-families, the Caesalpinioideae, ...

Evolution and Development in the Amorphoid Clade (amorpheae: Papilionoideae: Leguminosae): Petal Loss and Dedifferentiation

We used comparative developmental morphology to study the evolution of nonpapilionaceous corollas in the amorphoid clade of the tribe Amorpheae (Papilionoideae). This clade consists of five genera in which there are no papilionaceous corollas (five petals differentiated into one banner, two wing, and two keel petals). We studied the ontogenies of three nonpapilionaceous forms: corollas consisti...

Ecological interpretations of the leaf anatomy of amphibious species of Aeschynomene L. (Leguminosae - Papilionoideae).

We present the leaf anatomy of seven amphibious species of Aeschynomene L. (Papilionoideae, Leguminosae), interpreting their structures and ecological functions, and also, providing information on which their taxonomy can be based, especially of morphologically similar species. We evaluated Aeschynomene americana, A. ciliata, A. evenia, A. denticulata, A. fluminensis, A. rudis and A. sensitiva....
